Wednesday 1 August 2012

The Y180 module is finished now. I enjoyed it. In June I passed the ICMA exam, and now am waiting for the EMA result in September.

I have been accepted for the AA100 module for the OU degree English Language and Literature. Been reading some of the set books, currently nearly finished 'Middlemarch' by George Eliot.

I have applied for AA100

I learned yesterday that I am allowed to pay the transitional fees to work on the BA in English Language and Literature - very relieved, so I have applied to do it starting in October. I have some of the books already, so I can read them between now and then.

TMA - Dulce et Decorum est...

Finished my TMA this afternoon, and sent it off. It was hard work, took about 16 hours. I get the result after Easter.

I am receiving many books and dvds through the post. OU workbooks, and literature,  and Liev Schreiber films. It will take a while to get through them.

I am looking forward to Easter. Going to the cathedral on Maundy Thursday morning, and going to watch a BBC presentation of the crucifiction by the people of Ripon on Friday.

Connie Suttle's books go from strength to strength, just finished her latest, called Shadowed. I feel as if I am among old friends when I read about her characters and follow her story lines.

Skating at 08.00 on Wednesday, because it's half term. Will I be able to get up at 0600 to get ready????

Forgetfulness & Update

I forgot about this blog until I saw a link on Connie Suttle's page!

Still wearing the splint on my right little finger, went to see the orthopaedic MO last week, it is healing, and about half way better.

OU work is coming on. Now writing my first TMA. But bad news! The full course will cost £15,000. Andrew and I talked about it, he asked how much did I want to do it? I want to do it very much, but is it worth the cost? After a search of the OU website I found I can buy all of the books and dvds for only a few hundred, and study without paying for tuition.  I don't need the BA, because I already have an American one, but I do want the education. So I'm buying the books, and working through them.

Saw Robert Redford on TV last night praising older women who don't have plastic surgery. Felt encouraged. :)

Good skating on Wednesday, enjoyed it, skated with Gwyl and practised my short free dance programme.

OU Beginnings

I read most of the text book yesterday, read all the poems, looked at all the pictures, got an overview of the course. I remember some of the stuff from doing O levels, but there is plenty of new material.
It seems that my best working day will be Saturday. I should be able to fit in 5 to 6 hours, with extra hours on some other days.
Our tutor has introduced herself, and I have seen some of the other students on our forum page. We seem to be a nice chatty crowd.

Downloaded all of Connie's books again to re-read before she publishes her next on in March.

OU start

Found the OUsba forum open today, and joined in, looks like a nice crowd of us, hopefully we will network together.

Kindle: I have reading Chosen by Denise Grover Swank. Enjoying it, well written, paranormal, some romance. I think I'll give it 5 stars when I finish it and review on Amazon. I read Jenny Pox by JL Bryan, quite good by gruesome. Downloaded the sequel, Tommy Nightmare, even gruesomer. Deleted it after Chapter 2.

Daily record

On Saturday I went to the OU open day at Soton Library. One of the reps was  Martyn Field, curriculum manager for the MA in music, and we had a long chat about Caroline. He gave me his phone number and will send me some bumf for her about MA and PhD. So pleased!!!

I have just finished the minutes from the MU committee meeting. The meetings make me quite interested in what's going on. Booked myself onto 'Take Away Day', a members' training day, will be held at St Boniface on 19th April 10.00 to 14.00.

Read Connie Suttle's spoiler from Blood Rebellion, very nice. She is hoping to publish it on March 1st. I think she is pushing herself too hard, and will send a message to her telling her I think so.

On my Kindle I have been reading Jenny Pox (The Paranormals, Book 1) by
Bryan, JL. Interesting book, 4 stars.

Mallet Finger.

Saw Caro mia today. We talked about Kindling and sharing books. Then I walked down to the Royal South Hants Hospital and presented myself at the Minor Injuries Unit. Was triaged, x-rayed and treated for Mallet Finger. I have to wear a splint for the next 2 or 3 months, to allow the ligament to heal.
Made Andrew cook the dinner. :~)

Thursday 9 February 2012

An eventful day.

Put Gavin's pic on my desktop: he is the vampire enforcer/assasin from Connie Suttle's novels. Real name Liev Schreiber, an actor.

Had my hair trimmed neatly.  Broke a fingernail and fixed it with nail glue. Something strange has happened to my right little finger - I can't straighten it. Put a splint on to hold it straight, will go to A&E tomorrow am if it isn't back to normal.
Angela came round and helped with cleaning and gardening.

Misery

Miserable skating today. Ice was wet and lumpy, I felt stiff and tired. Twisted my left hip doing a spin.
Enjoying Heather K-W's new book on my Kindle.

Tuesday 7 February 2012

Reading Heather K-W's new book

The Vampire King. Vampires seem to be very popular at the moment.
Had nails painted French Manicure by Rachel Vine. Very nice.

Monday 6 February 2012

Last night I read 'The Woman in Black' on my Kindle. It is very well written, and  enjoyed reading her beautiful English. The story was fairly good, but I didn't find it scarey. I'm not going to review it on Amazon.

Recently I have been reading urban fantasy a lot. I have enjoyed Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, and most of all Connie Suttle. They make other writers feel dull.

Last week I got my spin back at the ice rink! Since I changed over from figure blades to dance blades I haven't been able to spin properly. I think it must be the different dimensions of the rockers. I found that entering the spin slowly and gently did the trick, and got three good revolutions nicely centred.

That's all folks!

Today I set up my blog page....

Now I have to find out how to save it and recover it. I want to use it to write about books I read, skating, dog-walking and all the other things I do.
